Co-design Workshops and Labs

A Foundation-led project, in collaboration with

First Workshop - July 12, 2022

The first workshop took place in the area where the Foundation’s headquarters would later be built. It offered an initial opportunity to explore and experiment with the potential of the open space. Around one hundred participants gathered at sunset, under fig and pear trees, to reflect on ongoing social changes in the local area.

After an introductory session, participants worked in three thematic groups to identify needs, resources, and challenges across different population groups: children, families, young people, temporary workers, older adults, and people with disabilities.

Second Workshop - November 24, 2022

The second workshop took place at Dallara Academy, which hosted participants in its auditorium and study rooms. On this occasion, the Manifesto was presented and discussed, outlining in seven key points the characteristics the new headquarters should embody in order to address the needs and challenges identified during the first phase of the process. The Foundation’s headquarters was envisioned as a community-centered, inclusive, cultural, innovative, nature-oriented, and educational space—as well as a hub for connection and collaboration among local stakeholders.

The experience of the first workshop in the outdoor setting, together with the complexity of the challenges captured in the Manifesto, led to a rethinking of the project’s initial assumptions. The building and its surrounding landscape began to be conceived as a unified whole. From this perspective emerged the proposal for the Park: a space designed to expand opportunities for collective outdoor activities, while complementing and strengthening the role of the building that will house the Foundation’s headquarters.

Participants in the second workshop began to put forward proposals for outdoor activities structured around three main thematic areas: Outdoor Sports, Music & Theater, and Education & Nature.

The program of activities is still in development, as the Park will grow alongside its community. A detailed program will be defined progressively through collaborative working groups and pilot experiences of social and temporary use of the spaces. Through this process, the most appropriate form for a place that serves the community and responds to its needs will gradually take shape.

Co-design Labs

The participatory process launched in 2022 led to the gradual definition of the Park’s vision as the first catalyst element of the Fondazione Caterina Dallara headquarters. Between February, March, and April 2023, three co-design labs were organized, each structured around three thematic groups corresponding to the Park’s main areas: Outdoor Sports, Music & Theater, and Education & Nature.

The meetings aimed to co-design the Park together with local residents, organizations, and institutions—both in its physical dimension (spaces and facilities) and its social dimension (activities and shared responsibility for care and management). The first two labs were held at the Dallara Academy, while the third took place at the future site of the Park, allowing participants to directly imagine its spaces and features.
