Mission and values

Founded in October 2021, Fondazione Caterina Dallara works to create value and opportunities with and for the community of Varano de’ Melegari and the surrounding area. This is achieved through the development and support of socially impactful initiatives aimed at improving quality of life, promoting the local area, addressing inequality and educational poverty, and fostering art and culture.

At the core of every initiative is a deep understanding of the local context and its needs, built through ongoing dialogue and co-design processes with institutions, organizations, associations, and the Val Ceno community.

Caterina Dallara

Caterina was a free-spirited and curious woman: she felt at home wherever she was, from Indianapolis to Val Ceno. She loved to travel and had a gift for turning every occasion into a moment of connection and joy. She had many friends and cultivated a wide range of passions, including music, art, soccer, and, of course, the world of motorsports.

After earning a degree in Management Engineering, she joined the family company, where she played a key role in Dallara’s international growth. She worked alongside her father—eventually becoming his closest collaborator—as Vice President and Chief Executive Officer.

When illness struck, she faced it with determination and unwavering optimism until her untimely passing in 2007, at the age of 40.

The passions and values that shaped Caterina’s life are now the pillars of the Foundation that bears her name.

The flight of butterflies

The flight of butterflies is the symbolic expression of the Foundation’s spirit.

It represents openness to the world, a sense of independence, and a freedom without constraints. It speaks to lightness, to the beauty of simplicity, and to a form of pure energy—because butterflies thrive where the environment is healthy.

The flight of butterflies can reach anywhere. It is also a reflection of collective action: moving together, through the air, toward a shared destination.

From the air comes the color we have chosen: a soft powder blue, recalling the gentle tones of dawn—the light that opens the day.

The strength of a community lies in the quality of its relationships. For this reason, in alignment with its vision and operational strategy, the Foundation has developed long-term collaborations with a range of organizations and institutions working within the same geographic area.
